Blogmas Day 9 | Product Review: Mecca Cosmetica Ready Set Quick Dry Nail Mist

Painting my nails is something I've really come to enjoy over the last year. I used to detest it -- I never did it -- I hated the feeling of it on my nails and I'd peel it off within twelve hours of applying it. Then one day I made Bombay sliders (basically mini chicken curry burgers) and my fingers were so horribly stained from curry powder that I couldn't bear going into work with them in such a state. So I gritted my teeth, busted out the cheap $2 polish I'd bought a year before, and put up with it.

Now, as I've said, I really enjoy painting my nails different colours, but I'm impatient -- I never seem to wait long enough for it to dry and it ends up smudging. Another common scenario is that I'll have the inspiration to paint my nails late at night -- so it'll be wrecked by the time I wake up.

It's a simple-looking spray that promises to set your nail polish in four easy steps:

1. Paint your nails.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Spritz.
4. Wait 15 seconds.

Easy, right? You better believe it.

The packaging itself is relatively attractive: it's just a plain, simple, relatively thin spray bottle -- easy enough to take on the go, and easy to store in your cupboard. Some sprays (in general) can have the nozzle somehow awkwardly positioned so that I'm basically not able to get the product where I want it, but you won't misfire with this. I like to keep it about six inches from my hand when I spray (think of a small Subway sandwich if the imperial system confuses you), so that the mist settles evenly over my nails. Simple! It also comes with a small protective surface cloth, so you don't need to worry so much about getting the spray all over wherever you're using it.

The thing you will definitely notice is the scent -- it's flowery and it's strong. If you're not a fan of such things then it will irritate you beyond belief, but if you're into it then it's going to be right up your alley. I couldn't tell you the notes it carries because, quite honestly, my sense of smell is rubbish. The good news is for scent-detesters is that it does fade relatively quickly, although I can detect a very faint trace of it when I hold my fingers near my face.

I have one concern about this product, but it's one that nail aficionados will be better able to pick up than me. I feel that it's very possible that this spray affects the "lifespan" of the polish, if that makes sense. It's not a top coat of any kind, that much is certain, but I have noticed when testing that my nail polish seemed to peel off a bit easier. Of course, I wasn't exactly wearing OPI or Chanel, so the quality of the polish itself was something to take into consideration -- however, I've recently been testing it with Butter London nail polish (which is more expensive than OPI) and while it's not peeling away like a Babybel cheese, it does seem to come off just a bit easier.

That being said, however, I'm also testing the nail polishes themselves for the first time, so I can't quite tell whether it's my choice in polish or the nail mist itself. If you're someone who might hold the answer like it's the key to the Secret Garden, please, let me at it!

All up, I think this is a really handy product to have! I personally really enjoy the scent -- it definitely masks the occasionally over-strong "nail polish" smell that you get just from opening some bottles -- and I think I'd likely repurchase it when I finish it.
