Product Review: MAC's Maleficent Lipglass

Three weeks ago or so I got a message from Danielle telling me she'd sent me a surprise. "I've been having the worst week!" I replied. "Am I allowed to know what it is?" All she told me was to not buy anything off my last Crave & Covet list, because a little something was on the way for my birthday!

I got the package a couple of weeks ago and, to my absolute amazement, the amazing woman had sent me MAC's Maleficent Lipglass! It's sold out online and I thought that I had no hope of getting my hands on it -- there was absolutely no way that I thought it would be coming for me in the mail! Thank you, Danielle!!

MAC Maleficent Lipglass -- packaging
I have worn this so many times since I've gotten it, and I adore it. Applying it is super easy -- it's flat foot applicator (or, at least, that's what I'm calling it) makes it easy for Padawans everywhere to apply. Colourwise, it's the kind of blue-toned crimson red that screams power and six-inch spike heels. It has the scent of vanilla cupcakes that were baked by angels, yet no discernable taste.

MAC Maleficent Lipglass in "Anthurium"
It is a rather thick and sticky gloss, which I know some people don't like. Personally, I don't mind that kind of product and I enjoy how it feels on my lips -- that being said, you do not want to wear this when it's windy. It is so pigmented and sticky that if your hair catches onto your lips, it may just whip back onto your face, leaving little red lines of red gloss that you have no idea are there. Embarrassing!

Move over Snow White, check out that swatch!
As far as lasting power goes, this one really goes for a while compared to other glosses I have. I found that it was nice and bright to start with, but as time passed or as I spoke more, the colour did fade away in a kind of weird ombré fashion so it didn't look as garish as the "ring of colour". The Temptalia review stated that there was no feathering or bleeding, but I have noticed it happen a couple of times -- I did try this yesterday with a lip primer underneath to see if it would stop the feathering but I didn't like the result. Although it still had a delightfully gloss texture, the colour didn't seem to last as long and it looked somewhat uneven. I only had it on for a couple of hours before I took it off with a tissue!

Wearing MAC's Maleficent Lipglass
Despite that, if the Maleficent lipglass were still widely available, I would suggest that everyone have it, or at least something similar. It would look great on any skin tone and I like that it makes me teeth seem that little bit whiter.

Padawan Product Rating: A

Do you have this gloss? Do you have any of MAC's Maleficent products?

  1. I'm so glad you like it! A tip I learned from Cora from VintageOrTacky is to try setting the area around your lips with a powder. Like use a concealer brush to set around your lips and it should help create a barrier!
